Woodbridge Meet – Friday

Woodbridge Invitational Friday, Sept 14, 2018

Where: Silverlake Sports Park, Norco, Ca

Project Time: TBA            BUS TIME: 11AM             Return Time: 1:00 am

 

When we get to the meet we will be going over the course- athletes have your running shoes on when you get off the bus.  Each group needs to make a plan on when and where to meet for warm up. If you are not racing, you are expected to dress as if you are racing and will be help taking mile time splits. After you race- everyone is expected to be out on the course cheering. (Loudly, of course, knowing everyone’s name, and positive encouraging words!)

 

What to Bring: Uniform, Shoes, Socks, Filled Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Healthy Snacks, Sweatshirt, Sweats, cheering voice J We wear our team t-shirts, warm ups, sweatshirts at all meets coming and going. Money for lunch, meet shirt, we will stop at In’n Out on the way home.

 

AWARDS: Individual medals to the top 100 in each race. Team trophy top 6 in each race.

No spectator entry fee will be charged for athlete families and spectators.

Parking ($15.00) will be charged within the Complex. Spectator vehicles (including school vans) will enter the Complex at the main gate on Hamner Avenue and will be directed to the parking areas.

Buses will enter the Complex at the secondary gate on Hamner Avenue. They will unload and proceed to Eleanor Roosevelt High School to park.

FURTHER DIRECTIONS TO SILVERLAKE SPORTS COMPLEX

NOTE: Based on expected high traffic volumes on both area freeways and at the Complex, avoid the Eastbound Riverside CA-91 Freeway between the CA-71 Freeway and the I-15 Freeway.

  • Arriving on the I-15 Freeway from all other areas:
    1. Exit on Hamner Avenue, if you are traveling North on I-15.
    2. Exit on Hamner Avenue or Limonite Avenue, if you are traveling South on I-15.

Pacific View League (PVL) # 1 – Friday Sept 7 @ River Ridge Golf Course

On Fri Sept 7 the Bulldogs will be competing in their first (ever) PVL meet held at River Ridge Golf Course. The PVL includes the following teams: Buena, Channel Islands, Oxnard, Pacifica, Rio Mesa, and Ventura.  The course traverses the fairways of the Vineyard golf course beginning and ending at hole #1.

Project Time: 12: 45 pm       Bus Time: 1:00 pm       Return to Buena: 6:15 pm

Race Times: 3:00 pm JV Girls,  3:35 pm JV Boys,  4:05 pm Varsity Girls,  4:35 pm Varsity Boys

Seaside Invitational – Friday Aug 31

Seaside Invitational Information 8/31/18

Where: Ventura Fairgrounds                 Project Time: 12:30 pm    Bus Time: 12:45 pm   ** Girls on one bus, boys on the other. **

See the premeet checklist below. Pack your bag tonight, including your lunch, water, and other healthy snacks. Save the sodas, candy, etc for after the meet. If you need to buy food at school, do this during break.

What to Bring: Uniform, Shoes, Socks, Filled Water Bottle, Sunscreen, Healthy Snacks, Sweatshirt, Sweats, cheering voice J Extra Clothes – it is usually windy and foggy this time of year at the beach. We wear our team t-shirts, sweatshirts at all meets coming and going.

Return Time: 7 – 7:30 p.m.(Although last year was earlier and was more like 6 pm- due to great team work on the clean up); After the last race, we need to clean up the course.

Please find your seniors for your responsibilities regarding clean up. Once the course is cleaned, we can go home.

**Since this is considered a home meet.  Your parents may pick you up at the Fairgrounds  after clean up.**

Welcome Back Bulldogs!

It was great to see everyone today (at the same time) at practice – lots of new faces and familiar ones too. As we get ready to start our competitions for cross country a few house keeping items need to be completed.

  1. All athletes must be cleared. Please go to your Register My Athlete account and update to the current school year and select cross country
    • Physicals are good for one year from the date. If you need to get a physical schedule one ASAP with your family physician, chiropractor (ask for a sports physical), Urgent care.  Remember to bring your form to be signed. Forms can be downloaded from the site or ask coach for a copy
    • New to Buena Sports?  You will need to create an account on Register My Athlete.  Follow the directions here: https://registermyathlete.com/
    • ATHELETES MUST BE CLEARED to PRACTICE / COMPETE
  2. Sign up for XCSTATS  https://xcstats.com/index.php on the main page select the schools, find Buena High School and then create an account. Our code is luvs2run!

OUR first XC competition is on Saturday Aug 25 for the Hoka One One 2 Mile at the Buena High School Track.  First race is at 7 pm, athletes need to be at Buena at 6 pm

Team News Aug 14, 2018- need volunteers for Thursday

Hope each of you are enjoying the last few days of summer at the beach, pool, and of course getting fitter, faster, and stronger!   Tomorrow Soph, Jr, Sr have orientation and Thursday freshman have their orientation. There are many items that are suggested that you purchase at orientation, you do not need to buy PE clothes but we do recommend the ASB sticker as it gets students into all home sporting events free and the monies from the ASB sticker support our athletics programs.  We also encourage a donation to our transportation fund which you can find on the Buena on-line store https://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/buena_high_school_on/index.php?l=product_list&c=68

New this year from our athletic department is a request (mandatory?) that each team work at the Buena Bistro (stadium snack bar) for one football  game. This is in lieu of an additional athletic department wide fundraiser. The monies from the Bistro will help offset the cost of our entry fees.

We have been assigned to work this THURSDAY for the Frosh-JV games. (late notice I know- coaches found out today) We are needing 15 athletes and 4 adults to work starting at 3 pm until ? This is a new thing and the administration / A.D. are still ironing things out. I know that we can do a great job in the Bistro with all of our experience with Boogie Nights and other races. Our first race is on Aug 25, the Hoka One One Postal 2 mile, at Buena High School. The first race is at 7 pm.  More details to following….

4th of July Channel Islands 5k/10k – need volunteers

Each year the Channel Islands Harbor Foundation (& Mile 26 store) ask our team for volunteers for their 4th of July 5k / 10k race in return they donate money to our team. We need 15 – 20 athletes / including 3-4 adults for the race on Wednesday.

Time: meet at Buena at 5:15 am to car pool or meet directly at the race at 5:30 am

Where: 3900 Bluefin Circle, Oxnard

We should be finished before 10:30 am.

No Boogie Nights this week.

Harmon Canyon Trail

On Saturday at 8 am, we have the opportunity to run (hike, walk) the Harmon Canyon trail. It’s the trail that goes next to Missionary church and the Clearpoint homes. Hopefully soon the trail will be open to the public. The girls distance team will be there.  (Boys – check with your coach.)  As well as some runners from VHS and FTHS. Parents and family (dogs on leashes too) can join us. Everyone that is going to be there needs to sign and bring the attached waiver – see attachment below (The trail is still private property)

Park on Kimball Rd and then cross Foothill at the light, then walk to the first driveway and this will take you to the beginning of the trail.

Boogie Nights and Volunteer Oppty

Boogie Nights is a major fundraiser for our team that not only benefits XC but also track and field. We are encouraging our sprints, jumps, throws athletes to come out and volunteer along with our distance kids.

We would also love to see more parents participate in this race either in a single race or sign up for the series 7 week = $115, this is just over $16 per race and includes a light meal (previous meals were wraps, pull pork sandwich, hot dog, vegetarian option always served too) provided by Aloha Steak house and a beer provided by Firestone Brewery for those 21 and over. How many places can you go out to and get a sandwich or burger and beer for this price?  Plus you get outside on a Wednesday evening for some exercise- you don’t have to run – many walk, beautiful beach scenery, and most importantly it’s a fundraiser for our team. Also,  there is an opportunity this Sunday for students to earn community service hours, $20 for our team, and pancake breakfast by volunteering at the Love Run in Westlake.  We know it’s a drive out there and it is early in the morning, but some of our student athletes need more community service hours.

Tuesday May 22- Banquet / Season Celebration

  • 5:30 pm Dinner and video.
  • Tacos by Juan Diaz $7 per person- fill out the attached form:  Taco Dinner Form and bring it with your money in an envelope with your name on the outside.
  • 6:15 pm Awards
  • Bring a dessert to share. (coaches like chocolate chip cookies and lemon flavored desserts 😉

  • This is a major fundraiser for cross country (and helps track too)
  • We work this event (set up, course monitors, registration, timing, food, clean up)
